Great read!

This was a pretty good read and I really liked the fact that it didn't wait until the last few pages for the makeup scenes. They settled things way before so that then we could enjoy a little more happiness and actually believe it!

This is a sexy, passionate story with enjoyable characters - I give it five stars and think you'll want to read it again despite the fact that the hero is a bit of a jerk at the beginning - he does finally come to his senses! Marcus Osborne has some issues with women ... his mother abandoned him, his beloved wife turned out to be a money hungry trollop, a fact which he unfortunately only discovered when he found her in their bed with the pool boy! So when he meets sexy socialite Justine, who flirts with all the men, he paints her with the same brush. But there's something honest and sincere about Justine that keeps shining through his preconceptions ... and soon he's wondering if perhaps he may have misjudged her and that she wasn't just a gold-digger trying to snag herself a rich husband. He's stunned to realize he loves her, and because of how they began their relationship he thinks she only wants him for the fabulous sex! What can Marcus do now? Can he make her fall in love with him so they can be together forever ... ?

Surprisingly Enjoyable Gem

I bought this HQ comic based on the mangaka's art work and reviews for the original book. I was quickly becoming disappointed after starting the manga, the 15 year age difference, mama seemed unreliable and as if she would pass out at any given moment from the vapors!

Am I glad I didn't give up and kept reading! The heroine, Justine is terrific. Even though she's young, she's head strong, capable of making mature decisions and has no problem handling the often times, assumptive, arrogant and older hero, Marcus.

The sparks fly between these two, once the hero allows himself and their chemistry is off the charts! This is one of the sexier couples I've read about in a HQ romance in a while! The heroine is extremely likeable and the hero warms up eventually and redeems himself.

The art work by this mangaka, Misao Hoshiai is simply gorgeous and blends with the story flawlessly. Kudos to both Miranda Lee and the mangaka for creating this couple and their story!

Wild Waters is a Wild Ride

My 11 yr old son has been interested in Rob Kidd's POTC and Young Jack Sparrow Series for 2 years now. It took us several years to find books for him to read that kept his interest. This series and the Young Jack Sparrow Series have done that. In his words Wild Waters was packed full of fun and excitement and he cant wait for the next one to come out. His level of reading is age appropriate and this series is getting a tad "easy" for him but the story and plot lines encourage his imagination. He and his friends are all reading them now (thank heavens we have the whole series which we've loaned out to 3 of his friends) and then they acted out the various scenes and made up new ones all summer long. He reads for 20-30 min at night before bed and some nights trying to get him to put it up to sleep is a chore. They are a great series of books as Ive said, even dad and I enjoy reading them so that we can ask him questions and be able to identify with something he enjoys.

it took me years to find this book. One day I randomly search for it and they were selling them for a reasonable price (some people wanted to sell it for $40). I'm a big fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean and I this is great for my collection. The shipping was great, it got in time and it was exactly what i wanted. I love her approach and writing style in communicating the information

This is the second book from Karen that I read. I love her approach and writing style in communicating the information. This is one of the most helpful books psychology I have read. Gives more information and useful material than a typical pop physiology book in understanding personalities, the underlying fear/drive of each type.

I first read this work 30 years ago. It remains as vital and relevant today as it was then. If you're serious about helping yourself get rid of old emotional baggage, this is a superior tool.

Moving Towards Against or Away from People

As I understand it, the theory presented in this book runs as follows: There's a gap between our actual self and the image we have of our self (our idealized self) which causes an inner conflict which we tend to deny and make unconscious, but then shows its presence through symptoms (anxiety, unhappiness, health issues etc). The conflict is channeled into three types of personalities (Chap 3-5): Those who move towards, against or away from people. Those who move towards people tend to be compliant and want people to like them (pleasers, etc). Those who move against people tend to be aggressive, detest any sign of weakness and believe in the law of the jungle. Those who move away from people detach and seek for a form of self-sufficiency and to live in some kind of ivory tower with a "Do-Not-Disturb" sign on their doors. "Where the compliant looks at his fellow man with the silent question, 'Will he like me?' - and the aggressive type wants to know, 'How strong an adversary is he?' or 'Can he be useful to me?' - the detached person's first concern is 'Will he interfere with me? Will he want to influence me or will he leave me alone?' (pg 80). All three types are considered neurotic due to their rigidity and compulsiveness. A healthier person can flexibly give and receive love, stand up for himself when needed and withdraw at times for needed rest and reflection. All three types also employ a variety of defenses to deal with this interior conflict. Completely repress the actual self and identify fully with the idealized self (Chap 6). Externalize the conflict (Chap 7 fully devoted to this). Chap 8 covers the following defenses: blind spots (not seeing what's obvious to others), compartmentalizing (creating boxes and ignoring contradictions), rationalizing (self deception by reasoning), excessive self control (stressfully using will power to keep conflicts at bay), arbitrary rightness (picking a side in order to not deal with the inconvenience of doubt), elusiveness (creating confusion) and cynicism. Chap 9 - 12 looks at what happens when inner conflicts remain unresolved. This richly articulated and at times quite deep book, which apparently has been credited for inspiring other authors, could very well be "The Mother of All Self Help Books."

Diagnosis of a malaise and a prescription for healing

In this perceptive work, Ayaan Hirsi Ali examines a major issue of our times with admirable fluency and erudition. In the preface she points out the similarities in attitude towards Islamic culture now by the Western adherents of multiculturalism and towards communist regimes by leftists then. Besides an abiding hatred for the West in some circles, it is because of the victim culture and moral relativism that oppressive practices are ignored. Muslims are perceived to be victims of the West. For the same reason, Israel is fiercely condemned while the Palestinians get a free pass. She considers this patronizing and exemplary of racism in its purest form; the idea of the "other" that can do no wrong and must be shielded from criticism. Ibn Warraq exposes all aspects of this harmful fallacy in his classic study Defending the West.

Hirsi Ali asks the advocates of the multicultural society to acquaint themselves with the suffering of women who are treated as chattels. The notion of "group rights" are detrimental to Muslim women, and without emancipation, the socially disadvantageous position of Muslims will persist. She laments the fact that Muslim women are not listened to and calls for self-examination in intellectual discourse. Hirsi Ali also deals with the clash of cultures in Europe as revealed by amongst others Bruce Bawer in While Europe Slept, and examines the triangles of power in the Muslim world itself: the triangle of the strong leader, the clergy and the army, and the triangle of apathy, fundamentalism and refugees/emigration. The author provides a brief history of her early childhood in Somalia and her personal emancipation after emigrating to the Netherlands, explaining why she had to leave Holland for the USA. This is engagingly related in her brilliant work Infidel. There is an interview with prominent Canadian Muslim reformer Irshad Manji, a chapter on female genital mutilation and 10 tips for Muslim women who wish to escape their oppressive circumstances. A full transcript of the documentary film Submission is included, the film that led to the death of Theo van Gogh. Hirsi Ali claims that instead of empowering Muslim students through research and training, European universities have become activist centers to further Arab political aims.

She considers Muslims in Europe and around the world to comprise three broad categories: terrorists and the radicals that assist them, the tiny group of reformers that embraces the open society and the large number of undecideds who are caught in a mental vise, the painful contradiction between the harsh tenets of an intolerant religion and the values of the open society. She believes that the first victims of Muhammad are the minds of Muslims themselves as they exist in a situation of cognitive dissonance. Western cultural relativists flinch from criticism of Muhammad for fear of offence, thereby making it more difficult for western Muslims to review their own moral values.

This thought-provoking work provides first-hand experience and knowledge of a particular worldview and serves as an appeal for clear thinking, empowerment and individual liberation. Hirsi Ali nails it when she shows how various evils result from beliefs based on fear. Her insights have universal application as of course they are valid for any religion or cult. Although not flawless, The Caged Virgin is a bright light of courage and reason in the darkness of oppression and brainwashing. The book concludes with bibliographic notes and an index. Because They Hate by Brigitte Gabriel provides further valuable information on the development and results of religious radicalism whilst in The Unlearned Lessons of the Twentieth Century, French philosopher Chantal Delsol explains the civilizational fatigue of contemporary Europe of which one effect is the existence of enclaves where medieval brutality goes unchallenged.

Essential for understanding the position of Muslim women in the west and the conflict of values for Muslim refugees

Everyone should read this book or the author's updated version. The author provides a highly readable explanation of the basic beliefs of Islam, its conflicts with western values, the struggles of Muslim refugees in the west (focusing on women), and distinguishes between the religious and the cultural/traditional position of Muslim women. Ayaan Hirsi Ali presents very articulate arguments about Muslim women issues and proposes reasonable responses in western society. She also points out the unintentional effects of political correctness and religious tolerance on the rights of Muslim women in the west.

Harris contends that one must begin with a new attitude, viewing love, purity, and singleness from God's perspective rather than thinking that love and romance are to be enjoyed "solely for recreation." In such well-named chapters as "Guarding Your Heart" and "What Matters at Fifty," Harris encourages the reader to look at one's character rather than reveling in infatuation, to regard love as a truly selfless, biblical act rather than a feeling. He refutes the concept that we are victims of "falling in love" (that it is beyond our control), saying that "God wants us to seek guidance from scriptural truth, not feeling. Smart love looks beyond personal desires and the gratification of the moment. It looks at the big picture: serving others and glorifying God." I've been disappointed by plenty of hopeful encounters that just turned into ...

I'm 23 and single. And saying I'm single is weird for me, because I have nothing to compare it to. I've never been in a relationship in any shape or form. I've done as much with boys in my whole life as I did at 4 years old (giving winks on the playground lol). And you don't say you're single at 4 years old. You just say...I am 4 years old (lol). Romance is so foreign to me but heartbreak is not. I've been disappointed by plenty of hopeful encounters that just turned into friendly or brother-sister kind of relationships. I've dreamed it all and done nothing folks. But when I found and read this book one day in New York. My mind split right open, because it felt like he had been in it. He covers it all. He didn't leave one ounce of my heart soul or mind out. I felt like being single and saved was not just this cool thing that you did at church and left at the pew on a Saturday night. It is a real, possible 24/7 thing you can do heart, mind, and soul. How many people believe this? I didn't. I was pure physically, but every other area was contaminated, And that's where Christ comes in. Kissing Dating Goodbye is not a cult folks. It is a miraculous gift that is only God given. It can't be forced upon or ritualized. It is the Holy Spirit that moves and conquers these almost impossible mountains in the age of our culture and time. Because of my renewed foundation in Christ, I am daily walking in 24/7 purity, not by my might. But God's alone. And because miracles exist, I am daily falling for an invisible man who's face I've never seen and who's heart I consistently grow to know. Who died and rose again 2,000 years before I was born. And lives in a Kingdom I've never seen yet lives in me. IF that's not a miracle. I don't know WHAT is!

Great book for relationships

My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost 4 years and we wanted to do things right before getting married and this book has really helped me to understand what a proper healthy relationship looks like.

Highly recommend. It's making our relationship stronger and more spirit-led already!

Love, love, love this book!

I first read this book 15 years ago and it truly revolutionized my ideas on dating and has given me practical ways to avoid the common pitfalls of dating. I have given it to many people over the years and without fail, anyone who took the time to read it has come back to me and thanked me over and over for giving them something that has changed how they view the whole dating scene and to have a better way of approaching it all. Truly has changed my life! Can't recommend it enough. Joshua Harris has also written a review on a book called "His Perfect Faithfulness" by Eric and Leslie Ludy, a true account of their beautiful love story based on God's principle of "courtship" as opposed to dating in moving toward a committed relationship. A beautiful, all you could hope for, love story on how it can be done and have the very best anyone could ever hope for in that. Hope this helps even one person find their own "true love story" !
